Let the Safari Begin!

Just 15 minutes outside of the airport, we started seeing wild life. The first thing we saw was definitely “wild life” ( caution a picture for mature audiences ahead). A Lion and Lioness, just the two of them….. which is only seen when they are mating. Otherwise the Lions hang together and the Lioness’ hang together with the young in a “pride”.

Our guide said when the Lioness is in heat, they hang out together for 5-7 days and “take care of business” every 20 minutes! Good thing he’s quick about it!

Beautiful, majestic, proud Lion!

We got to Nanyukie Lodge and had our “little lunch” then a few hours later went out for a late afternoon, early evening 2 hour excursion.

The first animal we came upon was a cheetah resting in the grass. She was giving herself a bath ( just like house cats do) and just resting and relaxing. But, she did decide to get up and saunter away so we could see her in her glory.

We moved on and found a peaceful, old bull elephant. Both these animals were within 10 feet or less of our open air Jeep.

Then, we were lucky. We found a leopard resting in the grass. They usually hang out in the trees when they are resting. So we got super close to this beautiful, majestic animal and she walked right up to our jeep and walked around us,,,, so close she could’ve jumped into the seat next to me …” Hi what’s up?”

Satisfied we had had a good first day of Safari, we headed back to the Lodge, seeing a stork in a tree on the way .

What a first day, entertaining and picture worthy. They must be acclimated to keep and onlookers. Glad you captured some birds!
