On Sunday November 17, 2024, our Safari guide, Robert, and my Safari mates, Sherry and Delaney from Vancouver, gathered at 6:30 am to head out. Heading out early in the morning means you are more likely to see the “Big Cats”.

Robert is such a friendly, expert guide and excellent driver for the rough roads and brush we have to travel on to see the animals. I have new found appreciation for paved roads!
Robert is so good about telling us all about the animals and their behaviors. I am learning much from him.
The first thing we came across was a lioness, resting in the shade of the rocks along a river

The Great Migration is on from northern Serengeti to southern Serengeti where the wildebeests will have their babies. There are thousands of them right now, galloping along and soon will be covering the landscape with their migration. Zebra always travel with wildebeests because the wildebeests can smell rain very far off and find green grass to graze. and also, because the zebra are smaller in number, the wildebeest provides coverage for them and decreases risk from predators.

We found a Mama Cheetah and her 2 cubs.

We saw stately and graceful giraffes.

We founds a fancy Secretary bird who looks like she is wearing black leggings, white shirt, make-up, high heels and a fancy hat. She is about the size of a turkey.

A black- backed Jakal and his buddies were roaming around. They are the size of a small dog.

Then, so very cool, we came across 3 young lions resting in a tree, with 2 lioness and 4 cubs resting at the bottom.

Heading back, we saw the ever present Thompson gazelles. They stand in herds with their little black tails waving like so many hankies in the wind. And they are so funny because one will start running and then they will all start running like ” oh we are running now,,, RUN!,,, then one will stop as if saying ,,,, hey guys, why are we running ? Then they will all start grazing in a herd again, only to repeat the sequence again often.

Most mornings we would have a 5-6 hour tour then at 4:30 we would have a 1-2 hours second tour.
